ALL is set for the inaugural Gweru Carnival taking place in the Midlands capital on Saturday.
The festival, which is being organised by Rock Zimbabwe Festival Series, will see award-winning producer Oskid, Simba Tagz, Guspy Warrior, Hwindi President, Magikal, Jay C and Team BHO among other artistes performing on the street parade.
Star FM DJs Ash Styles and Nivek will be on the decks entertaining carnivalists as they march along the streets of Gweru. They will be supported by Cables, Mupsy, Muntu, BrickCity, Masty and Black Spider Sound.
Similar to the Harare International Carnival, the Gweru Carnival will have a street parade in which people will be expected to dress up in funky outfits and join the fun. Besides musicians performing, the street party will feature models and Gushesh drifters with alcohol and braai areas mounted across the city.
Event organiser, Esau Hondora, said they wanted to popularise the carnival concept in Gweru.
“Carnivals are popular in Harare and Victoria Falls and we wanted people in the Midlands capital to have a feel of them
over the Easter holiday,” Hondora said.
He said the event had been long overdue, especially considering that Gweru residents are a fun loving lot.
“Gweru’s entertainment field will never be the same again after the carnival as it’s just a day to get away from the usual activities and have fun.
“We want people here to experience a different kind of entertainment for the whole family from the afternoon till late.”
An after party will be held later in the day in town between Robert Mugabe way (fifth street) up to Duly’s (eight street). The streets will be barricaded to allow revellers to party freely.
