Soul Jah Love

Bongani Ndlovu, Showbiz Correspondent
Kadoma music fans turned violent and pelted the stage with stones, beer cans and bottles at Odyssey Night Club after Soul Jah Love failed to turn up for the show on Saturday.

Reports from Kadoma say fans were livid when Soul Jah Love who was billed to perform failed to turn up.

Witnesses, however, said Seh Calaz and Killer T had put up a good show which was spoiled by Soul Jah Love’s failure to turn up.

Fans waited until 3AM for Soul Jah and it was only after DJs started disconnecting speakers that all hell broke loose.

“People were waiting for Jah Love to perform. Seh Calaz and Killer T had already performed and then one of the DJs was spotted disconnecting speakers and people started throwing missiles onto the stage,” said the witness who declined to be named.

“A stampede ensued as people tried to head for the exits to escape the melee. There were some people who were injured.”

The witness said Soul Jah Love’s manager Benjamin Nyandoro was also there waiting for his artiste to arrive.

“His manager had travelled ahead of Soul Jah Love and they were there waiting for him,” said the witness.

Organiser of the show D Nosh referred all questions to Soul Jah Love’s manager Nyandoro.

Asked for comment Nyandoro asked this reporter to call after 30 minutes and thereafter his phone went unanswered.

Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara said he was yet to receive details of the incident. – @bonganinkunzi

Veteran South African kwaito artiste Zola failed to make it for the Bayethe Bulawayo show on Saturday after he missed his flight to the city.

Zola’s performance was supposed to be part of the Intwasa Arts Festival koBulawayo shutdown concert.

Entrance to the show had been pegged at $2 but organisers were forced to let the fans in for free after Zola failed to come.

He was supposed to share the stage with Madlela Skhobokhobo, Ndux Junior, Martin and Ndolwane Super Sounds and Clement Magwaza.

Zola’s performance was only confirmed on Friday afternoon with organisers saying they had been cleared by the relevant authorities after paying the artiste at the 11th hour. Thereafter efforts were made to market the show.

Late Saturday afternoon, news started trickling in on social media that Zola was no longer coming.

Intwasa spokesperson Nkululeko Nkala later confirmed the development.

“We paid everything to the artiste. Unfortunately he couldn’t make it to the show because he missed his flight,” said Nkala.

Zola’s no show, however, did not dampen the mood as the local contingent of Madlela Skhobokhobo, Ndux Junior, Martin and Ndolwane Super Sounds and Clement Magwaza kept the party going.

On Friday the Cover’s Night was a marvel to watch as Ramsy K, Luke Delukes and Babongile Sikhonjwa brought the house down.

Chibuku Road to Fame

Bongani Ndlovu, Showbiz Correspondent
Bulawayo group – Afro Fusion African Tribe who came second in the Chibuku Road to Fame national finals, say they are happy with their achievement.

The seven-member jazz group walked away with $5 000 prize money for their effort.

Travellers Band from Midlands province landed the top prize of $7 000 and a recording contract while Knight Sounds from Mashonaland Central came third and pocketed $3 000.

Afro Tribe lead vocalist Fiola Malamba-Ncube said: “Before we left for Harare, we declared that we weren’t travelling all the way to the capital city to make up the numbers. We went there to compete and win and I’m glad all the long nights we spent rehearsing and preparing for the national final were worth it.

“Although we wanted the top prize, Travellers Band was too good, they outshined everyone. It really showed how tough the competition was,” said Malamba-Ncube.

She said when their group was called out as first runners-up, they were at a loss for words.

“We were so excited when our group was called out and we learnt that we’d won $5 000. We’re planning to use the prize money to buy equipment and record an album as we have songs we haven’t recorded.

“For now, we’ve been performing the songs during our live shows with the hope to record them at a later stage,” said Malamba-Ncube.

A celebration of their achievement will be held at Cape to Cairo on Saturday.

“People are invited to come and celebrate with us on Saturday. The performance will be a special one as we’ll be celebrating our achievement as a band,” said Malamba-Ncube.

Tafadzwa Mapasawo from the Travellers band said they were happy to have taken first position.

“Besides the prize money, we also clinched a recording contract meaning we now have a starting point that will see us take our music to greater heights,” said Mapasawo.

If you were an uber fan of Being Bonang, then unfortunately we have some bad news.

Fans were left devastated when Bonang announced on her Twitter page that the show will not be coming back for another season.

“No Season Two… But, a big THANK YOU to everyone’s who’s loved & watched my show… Means the world to me,” she tweeted on Friday.

The 13-part reality show premiered on Vuzu Amp in July and has reportedly been one of the channel’s most popular series.

Speaking to TshisaLive, chief architect of DNA Brand Architects, Sylvester Chauke, who manages Bonang said the queen never intended to have a second season.

“The whole idea was for her to have one season of the show. The show has done extremely well and there has been a phenomenal growth on the channel.

The channel was extremely happy with the show but you will have to ask them for more information about the show,” he said.

Meanwhile, DJ Fresh made arrangements with Uber to deliver a package to him.

But his package, which had an outfit he was supposed to wear at an event, was never delivered when the driver went missing with the items.

Yesterday, after hours of waiting, DJ Fresh lost his cool over social media.

Some of the posts he tweeted on social media include a question on what to do, since he has not received his package and he couldn’t get throught to either the driver or Uber.

After 12 hours, another post was sent out by DJ Fresh, with a picture of the driver.

Uber spokeswoman Samantha Allenburg said they were in touch with the rider as well as the driver.— DailySun.

Diliza

Bongani Ndlovu, Showbiz Correspondent
South Africa-based Stiff front man, Diliza, put his popularity to the test at the weekend when he celebrated his birthday in Bulawayo – for the first time in years – at Club Connect.

He passed the test with flying colours if the attendance is anything to go by as friends from the arts fraternity and fans came out in their numbers to party with him.

The Luveve-born lyricist could not believe the love shown for him in the city as the VIP area which had been reserved for him swelled up with the likes of Sandra Ndebele, Babongile Sikhonjwa and Nkululeko Nkala among many others. Occasionally, fans made their way to the VIP section to take pictures with the star. Each time he left his seat, he was swarmed by fans who wanted to interact and take pictures with him – showing how much love people in his hometown have for him.

To get the party started, Diliza took to the DJ box with the help of Sikhonjwa and performed about eight songs. He used his birthday celebration to introduce fans to his group’s new music. Judging by the response from the crowd, songs like Awe Ma, Juluk’ iRoof and Private Party will likely be club bangers just like the group’s successful track – Umcimbi.

Sikhonjwa led the birthday song and also joined Diliza on stage and supported him as he unveiled the new tracks.

Also in attendance at Diliza’s birthday celebrations were Zimbabwe Tourism Authority CEO, Karikoga Kaseke and Sanganai/Hlanganani travel fair buyers who seemed to enjoy every bit of the party judging by the time they left. They were glued in their VIP sections closely watching in amusement as Diliza rocked the stage.

Speaking after the party, Diliza said: “It was the best birthday party I’ve ever had. I really enjoyed. For the past couple of years, I’ve been partying in South Africa, but for the first time I partied in Bulawayo and I must confess, this was the best decision ever. I want to do it again and again.”

Earlier in the week, Diliza who declared that he was single stayed true to his word as he was a lone wolf the whole night. The only woman who was by his side was his cousin who closely guarded his birthday cake while he and his crew enjoyed the various drinks in the comfort of the VIP area.

Berita Khumalo

Bongani Ndlovu, Showbiz Correspondent
SONGSTRESS Berita Khumalo was on Saturday night whisked off stage in South Africa after an unknown machete wielding man pounced on her.

The Zimbabwean artiste who is based in South Africa, was performing at the PlettChillOut in front of about 2 000 fans at the Kwanokuthula Stadium in Plettenberg Bay, Western Cape.

Ninel Musson, director at Vth Season – Berita’s management company said it was fortunate that the man did not harm Berita.

Describing the incident, Musson said: “Two songs into Berita’s performance, a man with a machete came on stage and started cutting sound cables before proceeding to follow Berita with the knife.

“It was one of the scariest incidents I’ve experienced at a show. I was with Berita and we’re both grateful to have escaped alive and unharmed. We regret that Berita was unable to complete her set as the crowd in attendance were extremely excited to see her perform and many travelled from far to witness the African Jewel live.”

Musson said although Berita was in shock, she wanted to get back on stage.

“Berita wanted to go back and complete her set to the thousands of fans who came out, but was told it was not safe to do so. Berita is shattered at the turn of events as she was looking forward to giving a spectacular performance of her latest album to fans from Cape Town and the Eastern Cape, the province that birthed her career,” said Musson.

Berita has however assured fans that she was not harmed though she is shaken.

“Hello family, thank you for all your concerns and messages about this weekend’s incident. I was traumatised but I’m well now, home and well rested,” she posted on her Twitter page.

Musson said the man who pounced on Berita was still at large adding that Berita was ready to go back to perform in her home town.

“Berita would like to thank all her fans for the support and to let them know that this negative incident will not prevent her from going back to the Cape to perform soon.”

Zhakata returns to Bulawayo after five-year hiatus

Leonard Zhakata

Leonard Zhakata

Nhlalwenhle Ngwenya, Showbiz Correspondent
AFTER going for five years without performing in Bulawayo, Hupenyu Mutoro hit-maker – Leonard Zhakata – who had a huge fun base here then – is set to test the waters by staging a show at Manor Hotel on Saturday.

The artiste-cum pastor who started the year well when three of his songs from new album ‘Mutunga Dzese’ made it to the top three at the Coca-Cola Radio Zimbabwe Top 50 2016 chart show, has been hosting a series of shows across the country ever since then.

This is probably an attempt to revive his music career and fan base which seemed to have been dwindling.

After he broke the Radio Zimbabwe chart show’s record, there was outrage with some claiming not to know any of Zhakata’s new songs. Radio Zimbabwe listeners however felt otherwise as they voted.

The music followers could not be blamed however as his other album released in 2013 had received a lukewarm response leaving people reminiscing about the Mugove days.

Zhakata, well aware of people’s outrage, said this was caused by a shift of followers when he inadvertently switched genres from Zora Music to gospel as well as joining Emmanuel Makandiwa’s United Family International Church (UFIC).

“There was a shift of market. My audiences just changed so it’s the quality of listeners that matters. God has promoted me with the change to quality from quantity. I may have lesser audiences but those are the people that really love my music,” Zhakata was quoted saying.

Interestingly, Zhakata, a musician who is now a pastor at UFIC, said he uses his talent to preach on different stages though he has not abandoned his Zora fans.

“Although my fans accept Zora, I want to show people that there’s a difference between social commentary and worship,” he said.

His manager, Ben Zhakata, said they were hoping to make up for all the lost time by performing here and show people that the artiste has been gaining momentum over the years.

“It’s been close to five years since we made an appearance in Bulawayo. For some time now, Zhakata’s fans there have been requesting for him to perform and we’ve decided to take heed of that call and give them what they want,” said Ben.

“Most fans have been complaining that they haven’t seen him perform his new songs live. His new albums include Zvangu Zvaita and Mutunga Dzese which are doing quite well as they’re receiving a lot of airplay all over Zimbabwe.”

Ben said fans in Bulawayo should look out for tracks like Game Changer and Soul Mate which he will perform. The songs will be included on his next album which he hopes to release before  the end of the year.

“One of our songs, Game Changer, is already doing well. I usually don’t want to surprise my fans, they should at least know one or two songs before the release of the album,” said Ben.

Zhakata is however convinced that his forthcoming album can cause another ‘upset’ on the Radio Zimbabwe Coca Cola Top 50 chart show.

Cal Vin shines as Emtee flops at Shoko fest

The stage was lit, the sound system was on point and most artists dished out palatable acts, but the crowd was nowhere to be found.

It is not clear whether people’s absence at the just ended Shoko Festival in Harare was a sign that Zimbabweans are not that much into hip hop music or that they did not like the line-up.

Despite the poor attendance, Bulawayo acts showed why their city is called the City of Kings by dominating the stage with loads of acts on the line up.

However, it was Cal Vin who had the crowd screaming “one more, one more”. But like all good things, his set had to come to an end and pave way for the main act, Emtee from South Africa. The hip hop sensation had very big shoes to fill following his countryman, A.K.A’s epic performance at last year’s edition of the Shoko Festival.

Emtee came out strong with his popular hit ‘Roll Up’ and his set had people in awe. The small crowd went closer to the stage and doubled in a short space of time. Everyone was on their feet screaming his name and singing along. The peak of his performance was when he took the Zimbabwean flag and embraced it – that was the climax. The rest of his performance was just moderate.

Interestingly, asked which Zimbabwean rapper he would like to collaborate with, Emtee said none preferring to work with contemporary musician – Jah Prayzah instead.

“Well, he’s not really a rapper, but I’d like to collaborate with Jah Prayzah. I like Jah Prayzah,” said Emtee.

This showed that local hip hop artistes have a lot of work to do in promoting their careers to appeal to international audiences. For a long time, Zim hip hop has been criticised for not being “originally Zimbabwean”, an attribute that Jah Prayzah’s music has.

“My genre is African trap. I am talking about African situations, our societies and the things we go through. What I’ve realised and something I’ve always wanted to change is people duplicating the American sound. Why not talk about our lives and situations – how we face problems here in Africa or Southern Africa in an African way?” said Emtee. – ZimboJam

Carl finds gold in small towns

Carl J Ncube

Nonsikelelo Moyo, Showbiz Reporter
Comedian, Carl Joshua Ncube has challenged artistes to get out of their comfort zones by moving from ‘big cities’ to explore untapped markets in smaller towns.

Ncube, whose stand-up comedy reminds many of popular South African comedian Trevor Noah, said this while in Victoria Falls where he performed for almost an hour at the Three Monkeys Restaurant on Saturday. The appreciative crowd mostly made up of tourists, watched in awe as Ncube kept them laughing, showing them why he was the best Zimbabwe has to offer.

Speaking after his performance, Ncube said Victoria Falls was an untapped market which needs to be explored because of its diversity.

“During my quest to break the Guinness World Record, I noticed that Victoria Falls has a huge market that presents a potential to artists, more than what’s being offered in big cities like Harare and Bulawayo. The difference between Victoria Falls and either Bulawayo or Harare is that, all shows I did were attended by a different audience whereas in the capitals, you realise it’s the same crowd.

“As a comedian it then becomes difficult to develop your jokes in big cities because the audience isn’t varied,” he said.

The comedian said Victoria Falls was more of a training ground as he polishes his acts each time he visits.

The comedian who now resides in Kadoma where he is pursuing business interests and promoting comedy, has not had a chance to rest as he has been taking his comedy to different parts of the world for the past eight months. He is now preparing to travel to Oman for comedy shows there.

“For the past couple of months, I’ve been performing in different countries and I’ll be leaving for Oman on Thursday for a tour I’ve dubbed ‘Homeless’,” said Ncube.

But before leaving the country, the Zimbabwe German Society will tonight host a Farewell Roasting comedy show for him in Harare.

The Vista formerly Horizon Bar and Restaurant in Bulawayo

The Vista formerly Horizon Bar and Restaurant in Bulawayo

Bongani Ndlovu, Showbiz Correspondent
AFTER shutting down last month, popular nightspot, Horizon Pub and Restaurant has been rebranded to The Vista and will reopen on Friday.

Situated on the mezzanine floor (between ground and first floor) of Pioneer House, The Vista will be a pub and restaurant opening daily from midday closing at 11.30PM.

Proprietors of Horizon approached radio station, Skyz Metro FM whom they share a building with to help them rebrand. This partnership saw one of the radio station’s presenters Possenti Sikosana being given a management role – operations manager – at the rebranded bar.

Said Sikosana: “On Friday, we’re launching The Vista to the public. There’re a few touch ups here and there as the place has been refurbished. We’ve also done away with the cover charge and have introduced a smart dress code for entry.”

Temporarily, the bar has done away with DJs though indications are that some will be hired later on.

“In terms of music, there won’t be any DJs playing as the music will be played from a surround system. Later on in the year, we’ll have DJs as need be. We want people to come back to the spot because of the ambience that it is known for,” said Sikosana.

He said various dishes will be on offer such as burgers, steaks, pork chops, fish platters, salads and vegetarian meals.

The Vista’s opening marks the end of an era for Horizon, which was once the place to be in Bulawayo. Horizon has in the past played host to memorable shows with high profile South African artistes Black Coffee, DJ Tira, Oskido, DJ Fresh, DJ Zinhle Kent, hip hop group Tear Gas, house duo Liquid Deep and Naak Musiq having wowed patrons.

It remains to be seen if the rebranded joint will keep the momentum going.

Sukulwenkosi Dube-Matutu, Plumtree Correspondent
ACTOR, comedian and musician Mothusi Bashimane Ndlovu popularly known as Madlela Skhobokhobo will be in Plumtree on Saturday for a performance at Alan Redfern Primary School in the afternoon and another at Plumtree Hotel later in the day.

Best known for his hit song Ngamnanka uSaMamoe, Madlela has also produced several films under his trade name Madlela Comedy Films.

Toundtainment director, Handsome Sibanda said: “We’ve invited Madlela to perform firstly at a talent show that will be held at Alan Redfern Primary School during the day. In the evening he’ll perform at an after party that’ll be held at Plumtree Hotel alongside Plumtree based artists and DJs.

“This event is an opportunity for up and coming local artists to interact with one of the established artists in the country. This will also be an opportunity for local artists to showcase their talent.”

Sibanda said the talent show was being held to help his entertainment company to search for talent in various disciplines – dance, singing, drama, comedy and poetry among others.

“Artists from small towns such as Plumtree normally lack exposure. This talent show will help us identify new talent and scout for up and coming artists in order to promote them. After identifying them, we’ll look for ways to nurture their talent,” he said.

Madlela said he was looking forward to visiting the border town as he hopes to impart the knowledge and skills he has acquired over the years to up-and-coming artists.

“Besides nurturing artists, I know that I have a lot of fans in Plumtree and my visit to the town has been long overdue. I’m looking forward to mingling with fans and performing for them.

“It’s equally important for established artists who’re either based in Zimbabwe or outside to mentor up-and-coming artists. This will ensure the growth of our country’s entertainment industry,” Madlela said.

Natsisai Taaliah Mudzamiri

Natsisai Taaliah Mudzamiri

Danisa Masuku, Showbiz Correspondent
Following a prophecy made by her ‘father’ – Prophet Chiza – years back that she is a musician – Natsisai Taaliah Mudzamiri – has finally heeded her ‘father’s’ prophetic word and is set to launch her debut album next week.

Mudzamiri, a student teacher at the United College of Education who fellowships at Eagle Life Church said just after she joined the church a few years back, Chiza prophesied that she had a gift of singing. He then took her under his wings and advised her to join the church choir. She did so and he closely monitored her progress.

This year, he told her that she had matured spiritually and could produce her own album, something which prompted her to start working on the album.

“I followed all that I was told to do by my ‘father’. It took me about six months to come up with an album which I’ve titled ‘Spirit of the Lord’. It was a difficult journey however as I didn’t have the finances to record the album,” said Mudzamiri.

“With the support of Prophet Chiza and the help of my parents, I managed to save up some money to record the album and it all worked out.”

She said the album that will be launched next Saturday at the ZITF Hall 1 was her way of thanking the Lord after she managed to overcome many challenges she encountered in life.

With nine songs, the up-and-coming artiste is convinced that the album is a total package for gospel music lovers.

“The album is for those who’ve been through a rough patch in life. They’ll be inspired and revived by the track Kutenda Kwangu where I celebrate the power and love of God, consequently giving hope and inspiration to one contemplating on giving up on life,” she said.

The track From Glory to Glory which she has been performing at church will likely be a hit as it is already a favourite for many at Eagle Life.

“Judging by the high volume of requests for this track during my performances at church, From Glory to Glory will likely be a chart topper. I believe so many people relate well with the song which tackles how God moves people spiritually from one level to another, showering them with His grace. The song shows just how faithful our God is.”

Other tracks on the album include I See a Change, Ndini Ishe, Wakanaka, Moya Mutsvene, You Reign High and Haakusiye Uriwega.

The debutant said artistes like gospel diva Fungisai Zvakavapano had inspired her during the recording of the album. To pay tribute to her, Zvakavapano has been invited to be a guest artist at the launch. Gospel artistes from Eagle Life Church – Reward Judah Ndlovu, Nkosi Herman Ndlovu, Tafadzwa Lunga, and Lorraine Maplanka are also set to perform.

Tickets are already on sale at the Rainbow Hotel, Hairstyle Salon and Eagle Life Church with the launch expected to kick off at 5PM. Children will be expected to pay $1 and adults $2. VIP tickets have been pegged at $5 and will have a complimentary CD.

AFTER a series of shows have flopped in Bulawayo, especially at the Large City Hall car park, Jah Prayzah’s music promoters – 2 Kings Entertainment – have decided to cancel the artiste’s Kutonga Kwaro album launch in the city.

Jah Prayzah was supposed to launch his new album in the city next Saturday, a day after the Harare launch but these plans have had to be shelved. The Bulawayo launch was supposed to be graced by South African afro pop band, Mafikizolo whom Jah Prayzah featured on single – Sendekera.

2 Kings Entertainment spokesperson, DJ Dee Nosh, said they were however, considering staging a show for the Mudhara Vachauya hit-maker later in the month albeit without Mafikizolo.

“We’re still trying to secure a venue, other than the City Hall for Jah Prayzah’s show in Bulawayo. We’re just finalising the logistics and will soon unveil the date. This will, however, not be an album launch, but just a show,” said Dee Nosh.

The promoters, who organised Babes Wodumo’s show which failed to attract a sizeable crowd in the city, said they were worried by the constant flopping of shows featuring international acts in Bulawayo, notably Cassper Nyovest, Busy Signal and Babes Wodumo concerts.

“What’s happening in Bulawayo? The way shows are constantly flopping there is very worrying for any music promoter. This makes it difficult for one to stage a show there.”

“We’ve come to realise that the City Hall car park is not a good venue for shows and are trying to rectify that. However, we’re willing to take the risk with Jah Prayzah whom we’re confident has a strong fan base there, judging by his previous shows.”

He said they were hoping to host the show at Queens Sports Club, a venue which seems to be problematic to clinch for most music promoters.

“We’ve requested for the Queens Sports Club and are waiting for the management there to get back to us as they highlighted that they were waiting for the cricket calendar to see which dates would be available. So, if we fail to get a date this month, the show will have to be held in December,” said Dee Nosh.

Turning to Jah Prayzah’s album launch, Dee Nosh said it would only be launched in Harare next Friday with a special performance from Nigeria’s Davido.

“The album is ready and will be launched at the HICC on 13 October. I urge people to attend the launch as it will feature a performance by Nigeria’s Davido who recently collaborated with Jah Prayzah on single – My Lilly – a track which has been received well by the public,” said Dee Nosh.

Other than Davido, entertainment at the launch will be provided by artistes from Jah Prayzah’s Military Touch Movement record label – Ex Q, Nutty O, DJ Tamuka and Andy Muridzo. Afro pop band – Diamond Boys – who have a song with Jah Prayzah, have also been included on the line up as well as Ba Shupi and Extra Large with Dee Nosh saying many surprise acts will be the order of the day.

‘Don’t take your party dress to church’

Yoliswa Dube

I WAS having a difficult time deciding whether to wear this floral dress to work or save it for church on Sunday.

I know, you might be thinking once you hit your 20s you’re too old to be saving clothes for Sunday. But I somehow felt it was necessary. I needed to draw a line between my work clothes and my church clothes.

Just like when we were kids and we had home clothes and town clothes. You couldn’t wear the town clothes while you played outside otherwise they’d wear out quickly right? If most of your childhood was spent outdoors like mine, you wore T-shirts which hung awkwardly and had chewed up collars and shorts with a hole or two in them and good old pata patas while you went around your business. It was bliss. In fact, what a time to be alive that was!

Anyway, instead of wearing that floral A-line dress to work, I thought it would be more appropriate to wear it to church. I mean, in as much as I like to slay, was there need to wear something so fancy to work?

You might be thinking, well, is there reason to be going to church in fancy clothes anyway. Not particularly. But it feels right to turn things up a notch as you go to the house of the Lord. It’s the right thing to do. It shows you have respect for yourself, the people around you and most importantly God.

Church is not the place to be wearing your party dresses and hoping no one will judge you for it. If anything, you’ll find strict fashion critics in church more than anywhere else. You can’t just swing over your night out look to the church pews. This is why there’s a “Sunday best”.

Your Sunday best should be the clothes you don’t wear on any other day — something you feel clean and honourable in. Dressing appropriately for church doesn’t necessarily mean wearing long skirts and oversized dresses that drown your figure. It means covering your body in a manner that is acceptable among a varied range of people.

Your Sunday best can be “decent” but still fashionable. Looking stylish is not all about showing off skin and “assets”. Don’t expose yourself. Measure those skirts. If they’re short enough to flash people when you sit, don’t wear them. Don’t wear anything above the knee if you can avoid it.

Generally, don’t wear anything see-through or transparent although this can be solved by using undershirts or tank tops. Ladies — absolutely no cleavage! Wear appropriate bottoms for your church and gender — a dress or a nice skirt or pants will do. Some churches are quite specific when it comes to dressing and may sometimes require something somewhat longer — a maxi skirt will look decent and fashionable at the same time.

You’ll never go wrong with a shift, an A-line or a wrap dress. Add a cardigan, some pearls and you’re set. Yes, miniskirts and above-the-knee clothing are popular, but save it for the rest of the week.

Guys, wear a nice pair of slacks, such as khaki pants or dark jeans. Both genders should avoid wearing shorts, please! Ladies, you can wear your jeans or pants to church with pretty much everything, just make sure you don’t wear crop tops, spaghetti straps or show too much cleavage.

Leave the high stilettos at home. As much as I love my heels, I don’t wear the really high ones to church. Instead, try heels that are lower than three inches.

Pumps are a great choice to wear with a shift dress, a pencil skirt or pants.

P.S — stay away from leggings, sandals and flip flops!

Gary Tight

Born on December 2, 1994, Gary Tight is a young Zimbabwean afro pop musician and also son of veteran musician, Willom Tight.

The young talented singer who did his Ordinary and Advanced studies at Churchill Boys High School in Harare started singing as a young boy with Willom playing a big role mentoring him into the musician that he is today.

According to his father, Gary started doing music when he was two years old, but he started taking it seriously after a performance he did when he was 10 years old in Mabvuku, hence making him realise that he had a gap to fill in the music industry.

He has shared the stage with well established artists including Oliver Mtukudzi, the late Chiwoniso Maraire, Sulumani Chimbetu and Jah Prayzah, to mention but a few.

Gary is good with the guitar and has a band called Gary Tight and the Tight family. His songs include Pachiso, Wakakosha, Mararamiro and Dzvene as well as a collaboration with Jah Prayzah on track Ndazonyora.

So talented is the artiste that when celebrations to remember Mtukudzi’s late son — Sam were held — Gary was entrusted by Tuku to sing Sam’s songs.

In 2015, the young musician was enrolled at the Zimbabwe College of Music. The college trains musicians on various aspects related to their craft ranging from management to developing a brand. Gary has toured Germany, France, Switzerland and Italy.
