Mkhithika Thebe Primary School Bulawayo Jikinya Dance Competition winners

Nhlalwenhle Ngwenya
MKHITHIKA Thebe Primary school is set to represent Bulawayo at the Jikinya dance festival national finals taking place in Masvingo on November 25.

The school was selected to represent the province last Friday after beating nine other schools at provincial finals held at the Large City Hall.

For its efforts, Mkhithika Thebe primary school, which took second position last year and gave the competition another shot this year, walked away with $500 and a shield.

On second position was Mabhukudwana Primary School that came third last year. They received $300 while Amaswazi Primary School which came third scooped $200 and a shield.

All 10 groups performed the rain making dance iHosanna and gave judges a good run for their money.

National Arts Council of Zimbabwe Bulawayo Provincial Arts manager Charity Nyathi said she was impressed by this year’s competition.

“The dances were more polished in comparison to last year’s dance festival. This shows that we’re headed in a competitive direction. Even the attire and stage props they used were on point,” said Nyathi.

On Friday, Midlands hosts its provincial finals in Chirumhanzu at Hama Secondary School. Masvingo will also host its finals at Mucheke hall on the same day as well as Matabeleland North at Fatima High School in Lupane.

The schools which will come out tops will represent their provinces at the national finals at Masvingo Polytechnic on November 25.

The Jikinya dance festival – a partnership programme between NACZ and National Association of Primary Heads sponsored by Delta Corporation showcases various traditional dances by primary school pupils.

‘Ammara’ in sex tape hoax

Ammara Brown

Ammara Brown

Bongani Ndlovu, Showbiz Correspondent
A SEX tape, starring a woman with caramel skin bearing a striking resemblance to musician Ammara Brown, has been making the rounds online.

In the photos and video, a light skinned woman who looks like Ammara is seen with a man, romping on a bed.

Many WhatsApp groups and personal chats were yesterday buzzing with requests from fellow users requesting for the alleged sex tape.

Thereafter, pictures of what looked like a naked Ammara in various sex positions with a man started circulating.

Heated debates ensued on social media sites, with one side believing the woman featured on the sex tape was Ammara while others said it was a look alike.

When the 20-minute long video started circulating, it added fuel to the already heated debates with both sides of the argument saying the video cemented their arguments.

In solidifying their point of view, some users researched the origin of the sex tape and found out it was uploaded online about four years ago and was that of an American porn star named Amari Harrison.

Ammara’s manager, Tsungi Zvobgo, said Ammara was unmoved by the circulation of the alleged sex tape.

“Ammara has seen the sex tape and it’s not her. These are some of the hazards of being a celebrity.

“Unfortunately, when somebody is working hard and doing very well, some people will be looking for ways of tarnishing their image.

“I hope that this won’t damage her career at least because people have been smart to realise that it’s not her on the video, but a lookalike.

“However, Ammara is very occupied now as she’s flying out later this week for a performance at the Zim Achievers awards in Dallas, Texas on Saturday,” said Zvobgo.

It has become a common hobby for Zimbabweans to publicly shame local celebrities with hoax sex tapes and nudes so much that the country comes to a standstill arguing about the authenticity of the lurid images.

The same vigour and verve in debating happened when another alleged sex tape of Harare businessman Tazvi “Chief J” Mhaka’s wife Ruby emerged on social media last week.

Similar to Ammara, a woman who looked like Ruby was being intimate with a man people said was Chief J’s gardener.

Many were adamant that the woman featured was Ruby until it later emerged that it was a look alike, another porn star from America.

Online spoof sites (a website using hoaxes with the intention of misleading readers to get hits) have become the main drivers of these sex tapes that the public gobble up as hunger stricken animals, sharing them as much as they can.

Sandra Ndebele, during the peak of her musical career, also suffered the same fate with an alleged sex tape leaking which at the end of the day proved to be a hoax.

I stay in Murambi in Mutare and enjoy telling stories that always leave people tongue tied and exhilarated. I enjoy travelling with family and going for random camps in different places around the world. This is because I love meeting new people and making them feel comfortable.

It won’t be a future for me without watching news as I’m really interested in International Relations as my country’s relations with other nations interest me the most.

Despite my present degree, I’m going to be a brilliant, influential political lawyer in the next seven years. As an eloquent, charismatic smart future lawyer, my nation Zimbabwe is portrayed negatively by the world, something I hope to change by telling the real Zimbabwean story as the country is trying to penetrate new markets as well as improve its relations with the rest of the world. I’m definitely going to leave a legacy.

Watching cartoons, going to the gym and swimming regularly keeps me at peace. Most of the time, I’m occupied with school work, clubs and activities at school. I’m like a book and with every page, one will be eager to know why the book has no end, so I will end here.

Lovemore Zigara, Midlands Correspondent
STUDENTS from the Midlands State University Health Services department are set to produce a film centred on sexual reproductive health issues.
Theatre ensemble — Savanna Trust — has been tasked to direct the film which has a script written by the students to empower fellow youths.

Acting director of health services, Tafirenyika Shoko, said the department had come up with the initiative to reach out to students at the institution and the nation at large.

“The film will touch on issues to do with sexual reproductive health in adolescents who form the majority of our students. The idea is to package information that’s relevant in that stage of their life so that they can be able to make informed decisions,” said Shoko.”

Shoko said the film would be shot later this month and is expected to be released early next year. Once complete, the film will be distributed to other tertiary institutions. It will also be released to members of the public.

Other than the film, the institution is also in the process of negotiating with prominent award-winning music producer Oskid whom they want to produce a music album with talented students.

The efforts by MSU come at a time when statistics from the National Aids Council (Nac) show that higher and tertiary education institutions have the highest rate of new HIV and Aids infections in the country.

According to statistics from Nac, the number of new infections stands at 86 708.

The organisation is now advocating for mainstreaming of HIV and Aids in the tertiary institutions’ curricula.

FOLLOWING the successful hosting of last year’s All Star party, organisers believe this year’s celebration of Bulawayo personalities will be bigger and better.

Dubbed the Kalawa of Vuzu parties, the annual All Star party will be held at a plot in Burnside on Saturday.

Event organiser, Adrian “Tedashii” Ncube, said the venue would only be revealed to those who buy tickets to attend the party as they do not want to attract chancers.

“We’re hiding the location for security reasons. People will find out the location when they buy tickets pegged at $10 from shop 29 at Haddon & Sly complex,” said Tedashii.

He said guests attending the party will be required to wear all black.

A photo booth studio will be erected at the venue for people to create memories. “A lot of entertainment activities have been lined up for the day.

DJs Kananjo, Tick Tock, House Maniac, Prince, Da Kudu, Ruckus, Dazzle and Cubic are some of the performers. There’ll be a VIP bar and tight security at the drive-in car park,” he said.

An after party will be held at Tin Cup, instead of previously advertised Horizon Night Club. Tedashii said the event was born four years ago as a party for friends where everyone was required to wear the Converse All star shoes.

A year later, they decided to open it up and make it public after people inquired about the event.

“As the party grew, we decided to start celebrating people’s personalities as everyone is a star,” said Tedashii.

Na Jesca causes stir with Intwasa rant

Oliver ‘Na Jesca’ Keith

Oliver ‘Na Jesca’ Keith

Bongani Ndlovu, Showbiz Correspondent
COMEDIAN Oliver Keith sparked furore on social media through his alter ego Na Jesca when he criticised Intwasa Arts Festival koBulawayo board members following reports that their property had been attached.

The festival, with offices at Treger Building in Bulawayo, had its property attached as they owed $2 900 in rental arrears.

Property that went under the hammer included a Hisense Fridge, Filing Cabinet, 16 plastic chairs, two office desks, seven office chairs and an HP printer.

This did not go down well with Na Jesca — an avid follower of the arts — who took to Facebook to share “her” two cents on the matter.

In a three-minute video, Na Jesca berates Raisedon Baya, the Intwasa director, questioning why he had been ignoring the debt.

“I want to ask Raisedon one thing, not because I’m someone important, but because I was born in Bulawayo. You want to tell us that you accumulated arrears of $2 900 and didn’t tell anyone about it?

“So as a board, you failed to sit down and sort this out to an extent that your chairs and printers are being taken. What have you been doing all this time as a board? The next thing you’ll be telling us that there’s no Intwasa,” said Na Jesca.

Thereafter, a debate ensued on his Facebook timeline with many people angered at the prospect of losing the festival.

Renowned playwright Thabani Moyo, who has close ties with Baya, tried to defend his friend explaining that the festival was in debt because of the depressed economy.

He said most people who were commenting were clueless on how to run an arts organisation.

“It’s easy for most of you on this platform to point fingers at Intwasa management. The truth is we all know that the economic situation out there is challenging,” posted Moyo.

Na Jesca responded: “I think your attitude is a classic example of the route that Intwasa has taken. You’re setting a bad precedence with your immature and empty comment.”

The Intwasa team remained mum on the issue.

Health and beer mix: Dr. Parirenyatwa receives meat donation from Delta

Melissa Mpofu, Showbiz Editor
A MEAT donation made by beer manufacturers – Delta Beverages was undeniably one of the hardest the Minister of Health and Child Welfare, Dr David Parirenyatwa, has had to accept.

Delta Beverages, through one of its leading brands – Castle Lager, donated 6 140kgs of meat to Mpilo Hospital in Bulawayo for consumption by patients.

What made the donation difficult to accept was that it was from the country’s leading supplier of alcohol – a product which over time, can take a serious toll on people’s health through conditions such as heart diseases, liver cirrhosis, high blood pressure and diabetes among others.

Other than that, the donation had come from an estimated 15 000 people who had excessively imbibed and had a lot of meat at the Biggest Braai Festival in Harare last month.

Twelve thousand two hundred and eight kilogrammes of meat (beef, pork and chicken) were consumed at the braai held for charity to help those admitted in hospital.

Also, Dr Parirenyatwa’s ministry and the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe have been raising awareness on the dangers of excessive alcohol consumption.

But yesterday, the minister had to compromise for the sake of patients and accept the donation which according to him, will save Mpilo about $6 000 per month. The 6 140kgs of meat translate to the hospital’s four-month meat budget.

Addressing guests at the meat handover ceremony, it was clear the minister was having a difficult time accepting the donation as he almost missed the hospital’s gate which had been overwhelmed with Castle Lager banners.

“When I came in through the gate (Mpilo), I was pleasantly surprised that I’m at the right place, but I saw all the posters of Castle Lager and I said is this the real hospital,” said Dr Parirenyatwa.

The minister was however, quick to urge people, especially those who imbibe the wise waters, to have a balanced diet with a lot of vegetables, exercise and sleep well.

“When you’re eating, you should have a balanced diet. When you have a meal every day, divide your plate into three. The first half should be vegetables and the other half must be divided into two – carbohydrates (sadza/rice/potatoes) and proteins (meat/beans),” said Dr Parirenyatwa.

“If you’re drinking alcohol, it must be done in a very responsible manner. One unit/pint per day is generous.

“Though by saying this, Delta’s business won’t grow, but the health of the people is very important to us so that people don’t injure their liver, heart and have blood pressure going up unnecessarily. So as we bring goodies, we must be very careful.”

He took a swipe at people from Matabeleland saying they needed to stop eating too much meat since they are known for eating meat with sadza.

Some nurses who spoke to Chronicle on condition of anonymity said they were saddened by the Castle branding at the hospital as some of their patients were in hospital because of excessive drinking.

“In as much as we appreciate the donation by Delta, this branding of theirs does not make me happy as it seems like we’re promoting the consumption of alcohol here.

“Most of our patients, especially during the festive season, imbibe a lot and end up being involved in accidents then they’re brought here,” said the nurse as she collected freebies from Delta before leaving the ceremony in a huff.

To their defence, Delta Beverages said they encourage the responsible consumption of their products at all times. Even their branded tents which proved unpopular at the ceremony had a clear message of the hazards of consuming alcohol excessively.

“As Delta, we care about communities that we operate from and believe in being a force for good.

“We believe in moderate and responsible alcohol consumption as we understand the harm that substance abuse and abuse of alcohol can cause to our population,” said Delta Beverages general manager – Munyaradzi Nyandoroh.

Miss Tourism contestants in camp

THE 18 finalists participating in the Miss Tourism Zimbabwe (MTZ) contest are now at the Rainbow Towers in Harare for boot camp ahead of the finale next Friday.

A sashing ceremony to formally welcome the contestants was held yesterday at the MTZ offices.

The final 18 were selected from a pool of 159. Before being shortlisted, the MTZ team conducted a lifestyle and criminal audit. Some were found to have criminal records, forcing the team to drop them instantly.

From today, the chosen 18 girls will undergo grooming and etiquette lessons, media relations and being taught about the tourism industry. They will also be hard at work with rehearsals for the final night.

MTZ spokesperson, Alson Darikayi said preparations for the big day were going according to plan.

“We’re happy that the ladies are here. They’re now in camp and are already fighting hard to make it through to the next stage as the first eviction will be on Sunday,” said Darikayi.

“We’re already monitoring the girls and their behaviour. There’ll be a talent competition as well as tests on the things we’ll have taught them. Those who’ll get the lowest marks on Sunday will unfortunately be booted out. Three ladies will be evicted.”

Sadly, contestants who had hoped to gallivant during boot camp have been dealt a major blow as organisers said there is not much time to take them to the country’s top tourist destinations.

“We’d have loved to take the girls on a familiarisation tour before they take to the ramp on November 25, but unfortunately time is not our side as they were interrupted by exams.

“However, we’ll take them to Vic Falls after the pageant and South Africa as well for a photo shoot. Even those who’ll have been evicted will get to tour with others as everyone is a winner to us.”

Also, another sponsor Study in China Admission System (SICAS) has come on board with one lucky finalist set to walk away with a fully funded education scholarship to China.

SICAS is the biggest education recruitment agency for universities in China and it represents over 300 universities in the Asian country.

Darikayi said the A-Level requirement by the pageant was put in place for such sponsorships. He said the SICAS sponsorship would also include a holiday package.

“This sponsorship package will see one of the 18 finalists being awarded a full scholarship to go and study a degree programme of their choice in China for four years.

“The sponsorship package will also include a holiday package to China for one of the top three winners,” said Darikayi.

In a statement, SICAS Zimbabwe managing director, Joy Khosa, said they were excited to partner with Miss Tourism Zimbabwe as they believe their involvement will change the fortunes of one lucky girl.

THE much anticipated music video by Trevor Dongo for the song Shoko Rerudo has certainly lived up to its billing.

Emerging from a storm of punches from the media and some very real ones, Dongo has finally hit back with his art which is totally unquestionable.

He is great at what he does and he does it with amazing panache.

The video, produced by Zima award winning producer Andy Cutta, is a slick, real budget masterpiece that surpasses many of the high budget splurges produced so far this year .

The Bulawayo-born Cutta, real name Andy Sobhuza, has become the go-to man for all those who want international standard videos and has done a great job for Dongo.

It is a clean beauty with a well thought out script and is as warm as the song perhaps apart from the cheesy cliché of beauty where Trevor says he thought his love interest was a white person because of her (presumably) good skin as if to suggest that any other woman who is not Caucasian has hideous skin.

Apart from this Donald Trump-like boob, Trevor sets the tone for a true masterpiece, coupled with a cameo appearance by Xtra-Large’s Jimmie Mangezi.

Finally, it’s Trevor who is delivering all the hits!

The video, which as of yesterday had close to 4 000 hits, is now available for viewing on YouTube.

Bongani Ndlovu, Showbiz Correspondent
THE road to Miss Tourism Zimbabwe (MTZ) reality show premieres on ZBCtv tomorrow with the finalists’ activities being featured ahead of the grand finale next Friday.

The reality show produced by Daysman Production House and presented by Rebecca Muchenje will hit the silver screen at 9.30PM. It will be shown every Sunday for the next two months and has 13 episodes.

Miss Tourism Zimbabwe spokesperson Alson Darikayi said they had hoped to have the programme broadcast weeks ago, but could not do so as they faced challenges along the way.

“Ideally we wanted to flight the programme earlier as a build up to the grand finale that will be broadcast live from the Harare International Conference Centre. However, due to challenges beyond our control, we couldn’t flight it earlier,” said Darikayi.

Despite the delay, the pageant organisers are upbeat and confident that people will enjoy the run up to the event. “The show is captivating, you certainly won’t want to miss an episode.”

Turning to preparations for the final, Darikayi said tickets were now available with standard entry pegged at $10 and VIP $50.

Those in Bulawayo can buy tickets at the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority offices.

Unfortunately, VVIP tickets will not be sold as it is being reserved for the MTZ patron — Barbara Mzembi’s invited guests.

Willis album cover

Robert Mukondiwa
Willis Wataffi Afirika, the former front-man of explosive Qaya Roots outfit Afrika Revenge has finally heeded a call he has run away from for years and decided to record an album on his knees.

His fresh release Songs of David, has gotten heads turning not only for its thought-provoking cover design, but also that it’s a gospel album!

That is not to say Willis has left the jazzy grooves and contemporary vibe for the synagogue full time. Far from it.

“I’ve always been on my pathway to recording a gospel effort ever since I sang at a Rhema church in South Africa. It may have been a calling I was not heeding enough, but finally that bug has caught up with me and I decided, let me sing for my Lord and his glory,” said Wataffi, a devout Christian.

Not to say he has never written from the passion of his religious virtue, those who really know the musical way the Bulawayo-bred musician has charted will remember that even on the phenomenal Qaya Musik album were songs for benediction, notably Anochengeta.

“True, I have always written a track or so to speak to my spiritual upbringing but this time around, I’ve decided to go all out in my praise and worship,” he said.

Indeed he did go all out. With his satin voice and sweet-sensational harmonies, Willis has created this 13-track scorcher which will leave gospel music lovers wishing he were turning to the genre forever while the contemporary music lovers will appreciate it for its artistic merit.

He even has strong hands, hands strong enough to pull the massive voice of the gentle giant of gospel music, Pastor G in the track Ngaavongwe, which also features the up and coming starlet Abraham Mchesa.

There had been the misconception that since he has gone on a gospel trip, he would stay as a gospel artiste.

He dismissed it for its ridiculous core. After all, Mariah Carey did not continue to make Christmas Carol laden albums simply because she had done a Christmas album. Neither did Beyonce or Kanye West get labelled as gospel artistes after singing gospel medleys with Destiny’s Child or Jesus Walks respectively.

The album Songs of David is more than a gospel album, as those who listen to it will attest. It is a lyrical and musical journey — an experience that is delving into the lyrical mastery of a modern day lyrical Michelangelo who paints the picture of the sweet science of worship in words and music.

To accompany the musical baby, Willis has already perfected the video for Ngaavongwe and plans a little bit more.

“This is my conversation with God and I’ve to go all out. It’s my moment with my creator. As a result I should exert myself. I’m also doing four more videos for songs off of the album,” he promised.

Doubtless, his fans will find a newfound love with their artiste as he resurrects on this beautiful album along with his saviour.

Rule #1: Never wear white to a wedding

19 November Pattern And Style

Yoliswa Dube

AS the wedding season approaches, please don’t be the girl who tries to upstage the bride by showing up in a white dress.

If you don’t already know this, age-old wedding etiquette doesn’t allow you to wear white to a wedding — unless if you’re the one getting married.

It’s pretty simple the way I see it. It’s her day, not yours.

It’s probably the only day she’ll ever look as flawlessly beautiful, be the centre of attraction and you go ahead and spoil that for her!

Come one now, don’t be the party pooper — the bride probably spent most of her life dreaming about this day, she spent months planning for it and maybe a fortune paying for it, then you spoil her day by showing up in a white dress.

The bride should get to stand out on her wedding day, and one of the ways she does this is by being the only one wearing white.

Let the big day be about the guest of honour — the bride — and save your white dress for a special occasion that doesn’t involve vows.

The only exception — the only one — is if the bride and groom specifically request that their guests wear white.

Only then can it be acceptable for you to wear white. You may argue that the cut of the dress is nothing close to what a wedding dress would look like, but you could be the only one who may think so.

For the avoidance of stepping on any toes, try by all means to stay clear of wearing white.

Of course you can wear something with white accents, but don’t get carried away and let your dress steal the bride’s thunder.

Think of the royal blues, red, yellow, olive, peach, black or even African print, which is a great way of achieving a dramatic but classy look you can take to a wedding.

There’s so much to do with African print material — if you plan your look in good time, you’ll be the best dressed guest to ever walk the face of the earth.

Jumpsuits have recently become acceptable wedding attire although they’re really not a personal favourite.

I just think dresses are the easiest way to look classy. Depending on your body type and what generally tickles your fancy, go for a dress that will show off your legs or your upper torso — not both at the same time.

If it’s going to be a maxi dress, bring some sexy back with a flattering bodice and if you’re showing off some leg, go for a more covered up bodice.

This way, you create the perfect silhouette and won’t seem like you’ve trying too hard.

If you can avoid it, don’t wear jeans to a wedding. Weddings are for girly dresses and pretty shoes.

Shorts are a definite no-no; you really don’t need me to tell you that!

Steer clear of T-shirts and flip flops, please. Men are the biggest culprits when it comes to showing up for weddings in T-shirts and jeans.

We know this is probably not your scene but at least look like you’re trying.

You don’t even have to wear a tie — a decent suit, a crisp white shirt and a pocket square will do the trick.

This is assuming you have a decent pair of formal shoes and belt.

If you’re not into the suit look, a pair of chinos and a good shirt will do.

You could go the easy road by wearing a black shirt on black pants and black shoes then throw on a blazer. The blazer could be as elaborate as you would like — to brighten up the all-black affair.

Depending on how romantic you are — you and your better half could wear coordinated outfits. Your dress could pick up on some elements of his outfit.

For example, if your man is in a royal blue suit, brown shoes and a brown belt, you could wear a dress in the same shade of brown with a nude pair of shoes.

I see a lot of people going the matching African-print outfits’ route. That’s also cool — anything to make sure you don’t wear a white dress!

Until next week, flaunt your pattern and style and don’t forget to catch up with me on Twitter handle @Yolisswa, visit my blog, www.stayera247.blogspot.com or like my Facebook page Pattern & Style.

Anne Nhira building her own empire: But still single and searching

Anne Nhira 3

Silence Charumbira
Anne Nhira is probably one of the best actresses to emerge from Zimbabwe in the past decade.

Apart from the fact that there has been little film activity in the country in the last decade, she remains one of the few beauties who graced the local small screen and are still worth talking about.

The actress who celebrated her birthday recently said she has been busy enhancing her career with her production house – Anne Studios in Johannesburg — where she has been based for the past eight years.

She said as opposed to the notion that she had gone quiet, she was just not the kind of person that was loud about her successes.

“I haven’t exactly been quiet at all. I’ve shared some of my achievements over the past few years. I’ve achieved professional and personal milestones that I’m proud of,” said Anne.

“I’m not exactly the person who publishes every accomplishment, but I’m extremely proud. I prefer to work more and talk less.”

“I’ve stretched myself extremely over the years to focus on different work affairs. My schedule has been tight as I’m running my own business (Anne Studios International), acting, producing films and studying as well as my role as a Quality Assurance and Risk Manager with one of the top South African wellness companies.

“I’ve to spread the hours of the day to do all that and still squeeze in some social time. It gets a bit hectic even for a very strong willed and obsessively hard working woman like me.”

She said she has featured in a number of South African productions among them The Rapist in 2012 and in 2014 she also had a role in one of South Africa’s biggest soap operas Zabalaza that shows on Mzansi Magic.

She recently featured in a TV drama called Mutual Friends.

But the lass often referred to as Vimbai from her role in Zimbabwe’s Studio 263 said she was now more focused on film production for Anne Studios.

“I co-produced a pilot TV series In the Shadows two months ago that we’re currently pushing to broadcasters. I’m extremely excited about it as it’s brilliant; it’ll blow you away.

“We’ve a cast from four different African countries and I’m also acting in it,” she said with enthusiasm.

Anne Studios International includes services like music production and talent training and the actress said she was going through exciting times as they were engaged with various African countries.

Asked whether she still hoped to come back home to stay, she said: “Zimbabwe is home. I come home once or twice a year. I’m proud to be Zimbabwean and I’m investing in property there.”

She however encouraged youths to travel the world to get exposure.

“I encourage young people to travel to different countries as it broadens ideas and dreams. You’ll see life differently, travelling is extremely essential,” said Anne.

On local productions, she said she was pleased to have seen a few good TV productions but said there was a lot of room for improvement considering the opportunity to have content on DStv channels like Zambezi Magic.

“Zambezi Magic is a huge opportunity for Southern African countries at the moment and we should definitely seize that opportunity. It’s best to work with experts in the industry especially for directing and camera to produce a top quality production that can withstand competition among productions from other countries.”

“Research is also required to actually see what other producers are doing, the equipment they’re using and then ride on that to create a good project.”

While she has kept an efficient lid on her private affairs, Anne opened up on her love life.

“I’ve managed to handle everything else and excel in everything that I put my mind to. I’ve set so many goals and I’ve achieved them, some with ease, some with more effort, but I always crack it. Dating has proved to be the most challenging. There I was thinking I got it all figured out but I’m still to get my head around it,” she said.

“I choose to be single until the right person comes along. I didn’t spend my birthday with anyone special except from my good friends and some good wine and champagne. And that made it special,” she said. — @SilenceCharumb1

Shadreck Kativhu, an emerging solo musician from Lukhosi Business Centre, near Hwange, is set to explode onto the national music scene if ideal opportunities and resources fall into his path.

The 32-year-old is popular in Hwange and surrounding areas after his recent release of debut eight-track Nambya afro-kwasa album titled “Chenjelela bakwaina babo”.

Kativhu, popularly known as King Skakativu, said the new album, which has been taken to National FM for possible airplay, would be launched during the Shangano Arts Festival in Hwange. The festival runs from November 25 to 27.

The album was produced by Hwange’s Music Life Studios.

Kativhu said his music was inspired by Botswana artistes, Franco Lesuma and Charma Girl.

“I’ve followed Franco Lesuma from Botswana and Charma girl who heavily inspire me. I’ve redesigned my songs to be unique in my native Nambya language and I must say the reception for my debut album has been humbling,” said Kativhu.

The title track Chenjelela bakwaina babo warns people on the need to be wary of untrustworthy friends. Other popular songs are Chisichana – the beauty of a village girl; Ndinokuda – a prayer for family blessings; Nhasi Ngozwedu – a family celebrating a daughter’s marriage, Seno Ndibo Yabaya – never look down on other people; Salazo Ndenda – sad song by an abused woman, Imi Zwandikomela – an advice to turn to God in hard times and Wazushalilia Woga – appreciate your own choice in love.

Kativhu is now working on producing a video before the end of year.

Alexio Kawara

Alexio Kawara is a man after Africa’s heart.

By far, Alexio remains one of the most consistent artistes locally, churning out a worthy hit timely for people’s attention.

And it appears his ploy has finally been betrayed by the release of his latest single Hatidzoreke.

The track is off his forthcoming album Oyi scheduled for release mid next year. The album also carries another single Zvazvinhu released last year.

Hatidzoreke, however, reveals a new dimension of Alexio. It is a brilliant composition whose instrumentation can get anyone grooving.

His infectious voice, his ability to hit pitch with ease and the arrangement make this track definitely one of the best products to have come from Zimbabwe this year.

Guitar arrangement, keys and bass are all packaged intelligently in a manner that could make you think of mega stars like Yousso N’Dour and Tuku.

This is certainly a sound that should see him graduate into a whole new level.

Alexio said he was indeed was aiming for the top of the world. He said the singles also serve as comeback tracks for his fans.

“These are more of comeback songs. I’d been quiet for a while so this is to say to my fans, I’m still here,” said Alexio.

“At the same time, I really need to bring back the inspiring Alexio in this song. With my music, I want people to appreciate who I am. I believe I’m a different artiste who needs to be heard.”

“With that in mind I see my music taking me beyond borders because I want it to change the world.”

Alexio said he has remained faithful to his sound and has not followed trends because he sets his own.

“I don’t believe in trends because I want to set my own trends. I’m unique and I believe that’s how every artiste should be.”

For his forthcoming album, Alexio has collaborated with a United States artiste, Wil Seabrook, on a single that will be released soon.

“I’m still planning the release, but the song is done already. We’re just waiting for the right timing since I recently released a new single.”

He said the concert was being held to celebrate the country’s music legends adding that the artistes were hard at work preparing for the big day as they do not want to disappoint.

“Besides trying to fill up White City stadium, we want to celebrate our music legends and heroes who’ve contributed in shaping the music scene to be what it is today.

“Since we’re going to be performing live, we need to be at the top of our game. All the artistes are working hard rehearsing for the big day,” said Khuliyo.

A bumper crowd is expected to attend the event as 8 000 advance tickets have been released to the public for sale. Each artiste will be expected to sell tickets which have been pegged at $2.

“As artistes, we need to be the owners of our own destinies. That’s why we’ll be selling tickets for ourselves. Wecan’t sit on our laurels.”

ZBC acting chief executive officer Patrick Mavhura said the live broadcast of the show was one of their strategies to provide content to the public.

“We’ve been re-engaging content creators across all genres and this concert is one of the strategies to do so. We want to give them the platform to showcase their talent at the same time, have some programming that people can enjoy,” said Mavhura.

“Bulawayo and the Matabeleland provinces are the cultural hub of the country and we want to harness that. We’ll be working more and more with the content producers from the region.”
