Multi-award-winning artiste, Jah Prayzah, is exploring his acting side as he recently landed a role on a new local production.
The Eriza hit-maker who has in the past shared his ambition to be a soldier is starring in ‘The Purse’ as a spiritual warrior. The movie is set for release next month.
Currently on tour in the United Kingdom, Jah Prayzah said he had always wanted to try his hand at acting.
“Shooting the movie was fun and a worthwhile experience. It was a dream come true,” said Jah Prayzah.
“It was more like an adventure since I was playing a spiritual warrior in a gospel script.”
But, Jah Prayzah is somehow not new to acting as most of his music videos, especially Jerusarema and Kure Kure, have been well thought out and captivating, showing his talent in acting.
Written and directed by Willard Magombeze, The Purse was shot in Bindura and Vumba with urban scenes being shot in Belvedere and Sunningdale suburbs in Harare.
Magombeze said the storyline is based on the power of prayer and the impact it has in the spiritual realm.
“The Purse is centred on faith and people’s constant spiritual battles. It questions what people’s beliefs and the strength of their faith when battling life’s challenges,” Magombeze said.
It also shows how the spiritual realm connects with the physical world.
Besides Jah Prayzah (real name Mukudzei Mukombe) the cast features more new faces – Rachel Maketa, Alpha Gatsi, Ruby Mhundwa and Roselyn Chakanyuka among others.
The film will be released on Zollywood, an online platform which can be accessed by visiting the www.zollywoodzim.co.uk website. – ZimboJam/Showbiz Reporter
