ALICK “Baba Shero” Macheso proved that he is still an imposing figure in the game and worth his salt in the Sungura genre   when he brought the house down in Masvingo’s Ritz Night Club on Friday.
Macheso, who fronts Orchestra Mberikwazvo, also gave another scintillating performance in Beitbridge on Saturday.

At the Ritz Night Club, Macheso, flanked by his prodigy who is also a chanter, Jonas Kasamba, enthralled the entertainment starved revellers at the popular leisure spot when he churned out hit after hit from just before midnight till morning.

Kasamba once left the group together with talented dancer Francis “Slomo” Dhaka and Noel Nyazanda to form Extra Kwazvose but Kasamba and Nyazanda have since returned.

Macheso’s performance saw fans, who had filled the venue to the rafters, dancing the night away with some heard singing along to all his hits proving his popularity in the ancient city.

The choreographers led by Selemani Mpochi aka Majuice were a marvel to watch with their nimble footedness on the dance floor which was complimented by Macheso’s artistry on the bass guitar.

When Macheso showed his prowess on the guitar, fans ululated, jumping with joy saluting their icon, while others threw money on stage as a way of thanking Extra Basso, as Macheso is affectionately known.

In Beitbridge, a capacity crowd was treated to exhilarating music as Macheso continued to entertain leaving the fans asking for more.

A fan, Prosper Denhere, who drove from Masvingo to attend the show, was full of praise for the singer and said it would take decades for someone to dethrone him from the helm of Sungura.

“Macheso left the Beitbridge fans asking for more. The man didn’t show any signs of fatigue considering that he had played the whole night in Masvingo the previous night. I drove to Beitbridge for his show despite having attended the Masvingo show,” said Denhere.
