SOUTH African actor, singer, poet and dancer Israel Makoe who is best known for his role as GP in the SABC drama series, Gaz’lam is set to visit Plumtree tomorrow.
The actor who also played Nongoloza in the iconic, hard hitting drama series Yizo Yizo, will be in the border town to interact with fans at a Family Fun Day that will be held at Alan Redfern Primary School.
Event organiser Handsome Sibanda said Makoe was also going to grace a Christmas Eve celebration party at Omadu Lodge.
“On the day, Makoe will not be performing, but he’ll be interacting with fans of all age groups. Entertainment at both events will be provided by local artists and DJs.
“At the family fun day, people can expect a number of exciting activities such as jumping castles, frame pools and clowns among other actitivites,” Sibanda said.
He said Makoe’s presence in the town would act as an inspiration to the youths as he had a lot of experience in the entertainment industry.
During Makoe’s last visit to the border town last year, Sibanda said he collaborated with Plumtree artists Sunday Mkandawire AKA “Tsibi” and Sims Ncube AKA “RS” on a house music track titled Lento.
“Tsibi and RS are very talented up-and-coming artists. The last time Makoe was here, they gave him their music to listen to. He later indicated that he was looking forward to working with them and kept his word. They have worked on the house track titled Lento.
“Makoe has also indicated that he wants to work on a video with the two artists. They are set to travel to South Africa to shoot the video soon,” he said.
As a result of this synergy, plans are underway to link more artists from Plumtree with local and regional renowned artists.
“This collaboration shows that we’re in the right path because artists from small towns like Plumtree are gaining recognition outside the country.
“As promoters, we want to expose all upcoming artists in their various fields be it drama or music. There are a number of talented upcoming artists in small towns who can have a bright future in the entertainment industry once they get the necessary exposure.”
