AFTER a script and play writing career which spans over ten years, Thembelihle Moyo has every reason to smile after her play ‘Who said I won’t dance’ was selected for Women Playwright International to be held in Chile St Diego mid next year.

Moyo who is based in Bulawayo, said she was happy that women were making inroads internationally.

“I am very excited to be part of this and to receive such recognition at international level,” she said.

Moyo who has more than 15 plays to her name, managed to shrug off stiff competition from all over the world to make it to the competition.

“They selected 36 countries from all over the world. From Africa they selected four writers from South Africa, one each from Nigeria, Namibia and Zimbabwe. Writers from more than 300 countries submitted their plays,” she said.

Director of Women Playwright International Chile, Sally Campusano Torres, said that it was a challenging task to select the final plays given the number of plays submitted.

“This has not been any easy task. The quantity was huge and quality very high. The chosen plays responded to multiple criteria including, quality, pertinence with the themes of the conference, relation with the social and cultural Chilean context, opening to new languages and finally, the technical factibility according to the spaces available for the conference, among others,” said Torres.
