OVER the weekend, fast rising comedian – Baba Tencen introduced Facebook followers to a new comedian – Peshi – whom he featured on his latest clip.
On the four-minute clip, titled Kuripwa Kugara Ministries, Baba Tencen and Peshi will be deliberating on setting up a church as a way of generating income. Visibly looking misplaced as she lacked confidence, Peshi contributes to the discussion saying the church should be centred on miracles and preaching to people to have faith.
But, it seems Peshi, who is eloquent in Shona and Ndebele, was not a hit among many followers as most people were quick to respond to the video saying Baba Tencen should continue riding solo as Peshi would drop his ratings.
“You’re now boring and will soon lose the plot Baba Tencen. This Peshi is not natural, she’s even scared to express herself,” wrote Badza Luke.
Irvin Chagurika posted: “Baba Tencen, you were better off alone, this wife of yours is not quite entertaining.”
Others suggested that Peshi be trained first before being included on Baba Tencen’s clips.
“It’s best Peshi be on standby sitting by the bench for now till she masters this art.”
A few like Venky Russo supported Peshi saying: “Well done Baba Tencen for bringing an assistant. It’s better when you’ve someone to assist you because other comics like Comic Pastor are giving you a run for your money. Peshi is talented and she at least now has a job which is great.”
However, other followers were provoked by Baba Tencen’s choice to take a dig at prophets saying he needed to do away with church related jokes.
“Church issues are a no go area, leave those issues alone. Nobody should judge,” posted Sheila Nyamakobvu.
Some followers were simply of the view that Baba Tencen was now under pressure to deliver since demand was increasing hence his idea to bring in Peshi.
“Your comedy was brilliant in its raw state. This format doesn’t work. It seems you’ve changed from making comments about random stuff to more rehearsed clips which are boring. Go back to basics baba otherwise you’ll be out of style in no time,” responded Isaac Chidamba.
But Baba Tencen, who has been well supported by fans and businesspeople such as Wicknell Chivayo, had his own reasons for including Peshi, reasons which he said no one could convince him otherwise.
“On my page, I’m going to give exposure to Zim talent whenever I can. I’ll support others, as I’ve been supported by others to be where I am,” Baba Tencen responded.
